Random Acts of Kindness Week – Feb. 13 -19

Kindness can be the norm, not the exception! Here are a few ideas on simple acts of kindness to inspire you to choose kindness every day:

  • Hold the elevator door for your neighbors.
  • Text someone “good morning” or “good night”.
  • Praise a local business online.
  • Host a food drive drop-off for the nearest local food pantry - AFAC has all the resources to help you with planning it
  • Invite someone who lives alone to dinner at your home.
  • Write encouraging words on cards and leave for neighbors, co-workers, or others in your community (mail carriers, baristas etc.).
  • Use sidewalk chalk to write notes and draw pictures on a neighbor’s driveway to thank them for being an awesome neighbor or to celebrate their birthday.
  • Offer free babysitting to a couple or single parent in your neighborhood to give them time to work or have a break.
  • Check-in with an older friend or neighbor to ask if there’s anything they need help with.
  • Go for a walk and clean up the trash in the neighborhood.
  • Leave notes with neighbors letting them know you can help with shopping or dropping off food.
  • Post positivity on social media. Now is your time to post encouragement and hope!
  • Drop off gift cards anonymously to someone needing encouragement. If they live further away, send eGift cards.
  • Write a note of appreciation to a healthcare worker you know.
  • Send flowers or a special gift to someone who lost their spouse or a significant other on or around Valentine’s Day.
  • Put a surprise treat on a co-worker’s desk.
  • Offer to babysit for a single mom (free of charge) so they can go to dinner or run errands.
  • Have pizza delivered to a friend’s house or send them a gift card for dinner.
  • Send an email to your child’s principal, bragging on their teacher. Be sure to copy the teacher on it!
  • Reach out to someone who's new to your neighborhood with a welcome note and a gift card.
  • Write a thank-you note to someone who has been a positive influence in your life.
  • Invite someone who lives alone to have dinner at your home.
