About this Group:
Thrivers and Survivors is a support group for female cancer patients that nurtures healing and wholeness—body, soul, and spirit—through God. In this group, you’ll find a caring community where you can share life’s ups and downs, engage in group prayer, and explore Scripture and other meaningful books together.
Our group brings together women with diverse experiences, offering a variety of perspectives and resources, including holistic and Western medicine, as well as medical and natural options available in the DMV area. We will practice de-stressing techniques, cultivate gratitude, and most importantly, listen, pray, and uplift one another.
Though each person’s cancer journey is unique, we come together in Christ Jesus, supporting one another in healing and wholeness.
About the Leaders:
My name is Emily McTavish and I just turned 40 years old. I have two young daughters (4 and 7) and an incredible husband, Devon. I am also a daughter, sister, auntie, friend, and a child of God. I am all of these things before being a cancer patient. I was first diagnosed at the age of 36 with stage 1 breast cancer and was again diagnosed in 2024 with metastatic breast cancer. While at first I was scared, angry and overwhelmed, I finally remembered to place my faith and trust in God and things began to get easier. I am a teacher and I love to learn new things and new ways to become healthier. I am passionate about community and believe God wants us to thrive together and empower each other to become the best version of ourselves. Matthew 18:20 "For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.”
------------
My name is Lani Bartola. I am married to my wonderful husband Jarad for almost 10 years, mom to 2 amazing young children (7 yr old daughter and 4 yr old son), lover of Montessori and overall fighter for justice and humanity.
Diagnosed with breast cancer in 2020 and again in 2023 with metastatic breast cancer. My faith has gotten immensely stronger because of this diagnosis. I am grateful for my church community, family and friends for always rooting for me and ensuring that I have a loving, caring, and faithful support system. While this has been such an overwhelming journey, I am confident that God is using me for something bigger and better.
My scripture during this season: Jeremiah 29:11 – “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thought of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
